One of my goals as the Chapter President is to keep the lines of communication open. In the past there have been e-mails that were sent but not received. If you check the blog every once in a while, you will be able to check the list of e-mails that were sent and confirm that you are receiving them.
In addition to that -- I am really trying to practice a 'listening leadership style'. It may be quite a challenge for me -- there is SO much I want to say :) I was working on the agenda for my first Executive Committee meeting and realized that the meeting was just not the format to share everything I had learned and discussed at the 2 day AADE Leadership conference. As I was flying home from the conference, I was reading one of the airline magazines. The article recommended that company leaders create a blog for communication. I've decided that what is good for a company leader might work for a Chapter leader as well.
Hope you enjoy the running commentary you will find here. Please let me know what you think.

I am intrigued with the “blog” idea. I have a son who does programming on Facebook, so I am painfully aware that I am way behind the times. I wonder how many of our members are using this media, or, like me, are reluctant to get a “google-blog” log-in for fear that they, (I also), will forget the password, or receive endless unwanted emails from Google sponsors. On the other hand, this could be a valuable tool for patients to use. I actually took the post-graduate Nurse Educator Certification course from KU Med (4 semesters) online, which involved posting and learning how to teach a class online. I considered doing that, but it is A LOT of work!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if our members would like to have a presentation about the usefulness of “blogging” as an educational tool. How would you like to do it?
I tried to access the ADA approved site www.pushplay2win.com and found it a little cumbersome to access the part I wanted easily. I know there are many older people who are very savvy with computers, but I wonder how many are like me (not so savvy), or completely out of the loop.
This email is more of a blog than an email, so feel free to post it. I am still hedging at the “Google Log-In” point.

The above comment was e-mailed to me by Janie with permission to post it as a comment on the blog. I did not realize that to post a comment, you had to log on -- learning something new everyday.
ReplyDeleteJanie,
Thanks for your response.
I am learning as I go. I did not even realize you would need to log in and have a password to access the blog. I thought the link would just open the web site and you could read what I post. OR can you read it, but then have to log on if you want to reply? A reply by e-mail would work for me -- but it would create a one to one correspondance to prevent an excessive number of e-mails in the inboxes.
My daughter has been trying to bring me up to speed on the communication tools available online. As much as I love giving presentations, I am so far away from understanding how to create online teaching tools that I am afraid I cannot offer that presentation at this time.
I could give a presentation on how to set up a google account for a specific e-mail. I have about 6 e-mail accounts at this time -- in case the e-mail address gets out to individuals who abuse it and I want to shut it down. I never give out my personal e-mail address to anyone but family and friends.
I'm still hoping JoyceAnn can teach me more about maintaining a website. I've thought about accepting the free website that dLife or Abbott Nutrition offer to CDEs but I've heard that you should not start a website unless you plan to keep it up to date. That will be my next challenge when I feel I've mastered the blog. :)
